An r22 refrigerant replacement can eliminate the risk of the R22 compound. Global warming Potential is defined as the ability of the greenhouse gas to contribute to global warming. It is measured in terms of Carbon Dioxide (whose potential is considered as 1). A global warming potential is always calculated over a time horizon. The time horizon becomes important because the longer a compound has the ability to stay in the atmosphere, greater the global warming potential of it. It depends on the following factors:
• potential of compound to absorb infrared radiation
• the duration for which the compound stays in atmosphere
The global warming potential for R22 is estimated to be close to 1810 and hence is considered a significant global warming compound. Therefore an r22 replacement should be adopted. There are many r22 refrigerant conversion products on the market.
